Privacy policy

Last updated 27 October 2026. Applies to the browser extensions “Folderist for Gemini” and “Folderist for Claude” and to folderist.com.

The short version

Folderist does not collect, transmit, sell or share any personal data. The extension has no server and makes no network requests. Everything it stores stays in your browser, on your device.

What the extension stores, and where

• Folders and which chat belongs to which folder, stored with chrome.storage.local in your browser.
• Saved prompts, stored with chrome.storage.local.
• A local copy of the text of chats you open while Folderist is running, so that full-text search works. This copy is stored in your browser's IndexedDB, on your device. It is never uploaded.
• Settings such as whether the panel is open.

None of this data leaves your computer. Uninstalling the extension deletes all of it. You can also clear it at any time from your browser's site-data settings for the extension.

What the extension does not do

• No accounts, no sign-in.
• No analytics, telemetry, crash reporting or tracking of any kind.
• No network requests to us or to anyone else. The only sites it can read are the chat site it was installed for (gemini.google.com or claude.ai), and only to show its panel there.
• No reading of other tabs, browsing history, cookies or passwords.

Permissions, explained

• storage and unlimitedStorage: to keep your folders, prompts and search index locally. “Unlimited” only lifts the default size cap so a large chat history can be indexed; it does not grant access to anything else.
• Site access to gemini.google.com or claude.ai: to add the Folderist panel to the page and read the conversation you have open so it can be filed, searched and exported.

Exports

When you export a chat, the file is generated in your browser and saved by your browser's normal download mechanism, or copied to your clipboard. It is not sent to us.

This website

folderist.com is a static site hosted on Cloudflare. We do not run analytics on it. If you join the Pro waitlist, we store the email address you enter so we can send you one message when Pro launches, plus a reply if you write to us. You can ask us to delete it at any time by emailing the address below. Cloudflare, as our host, processes standard server logs (such as IP addresses) under its own privacy policy.

Children

Folderist is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect data from them; as described above, we do not collect personal data at all.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, for example if a future paid version introduces an account, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
